Pandemic impacts Hospitality industry – What’s on plate for job aspirants

The lockdown, induced by Covid-19 has brought the world to a standstill wherein each industry is facing a massive loss. The hospitality industry is one of the worst affected sectors, with occupancy declining by more than half compared to the corresponding period last year.

As people at large all over the world is being confined to their homes to combat COVID-19 pandemic, travel is adversely affected. “A recent report by a job portal states that the hotel, travel and airline sector has seen a negative hiring trend of 91 per cent, highest across industries in April. The national average, as per the report stands at a dip of 62 per cent.”

This report has left many aspirants and job seeker apprehensive, thinking about their future in this industry. Placements were midway for most of the institutes when pandemic hit India. The institutes offering hotel management course are now in sync with the industry and have introduced new short-term skill-based courses based on emerging skills. Several courses in a blended learning format are also introduced for professional aspiring to re-skill themselves. This will allow students to graduate and get skilled to meet specific demand of hotels post COVID. Through special placement drives, candidates can enter the hospitality industry.
