Do We Need NEET for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy?

A bachelor of physiotherapy is a 4-year program that aspiring physiotherapists undertake. A physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats people with physical impairments, disabilities, or injuries. Students who desire to pursue a career in physiotherapy often ask whether they must clear NEET to pursue a bachelor of physiotherapy.

 This blog post will discuss whether NEET clearance is mandatory for pursuing a bachelor’s in physiotherapy or not.

What is the NEET Exam?

The National Eligibility and Admission Test (NEET) is an Indian national-level admission test. It is the major entrance test for undergraduate medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) programs at various medical and dental universities around the country.

It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NIA) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. According to their merit list, the NEET exam results determine which students are eligible to apply for admission.

Is NEET Mandatory for Bachelor of Physiotherapy Admission?

More than 300 institutions in India offer the BPT program, and some provide admission based on merit in the Class XII board exams, while others require you to take a specific entrance exam such as NEET. It is not mandatory that one clear the NEET entrance exam to enroll in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program.

In Maharashtra, it is not mandatory to clear the NEET exam; rather, candidates interested in the BPT Course in Maharashtra must give the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET). Candidates seeking admission to the BPT program must score at least 120 out of 200 on the Maharashtra CET.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill all of the BPT eligibility criteria in order to be welcomed to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program. The qualifying criteria for BPT might differ from one institute to the next. The majority of the institutes require the criteria listed below:

  • Must have completed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized institute.
  • Must have finished 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as required courses.
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age when applying for admission.
  • Candidates from SC/ST or other backward classes must get 40% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined in the qualifying examination.

As we have discussed above, there are two ways to be eligible to apply for admission into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program. One option is to take the NEET exam, and the other is to use non-NEET methods.
